Your Connection to the Cosmos

Have you ever woken up and wondered why yesterday you were feeling so upbeat, full of energy and light? But today you feel so sluggish and can't concentrate? It could have been what you had eaten the day before or the fact the sky is grey and it's raining but it's more likely to be what is happening in the Cosmos.

The planets and other astrological points of the Cosmos are continuously moving and changes can occur several times throughout one day, especially the zodiac sign which is rising or ascending over the eastern horizon (known as the Rising Sign or Ascendant in astrology). During one day every zodiac sign ascends the eastern horizon at least once, changing approximately every two hours. This means that if you were born on December 18th 2024 you would have a Zodiac Sun sign of Sagittarius, however, your Rising sign (or Ascendant) could be any of the twelve zodiac signs depending on what time you were born.

"Why would this be so important to me?"

A valid question that the following may help to answer. Astrology can tell us a lot about ourselves; what we value, what motivates us, core personality characteristics, natural talents and passions and even behaviour patterns. Knowing our birthtime can unlock insights into this information and help with self awareness, self reflection and gaining a deeper understanding of our psychology. The esteemed psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, Carl Jung, studied astrology for over 40 years and accredits it to helping him with his work on synchronicity. He is quoted as saying that astrology is " the summation of all psychological knowledge of antiquity" , referring to the ancient use of astrology that encapsulates an understanding of archetypes within the human psyche and brings with it a vast collection of psychological insights. Insights that we can use every day to help us grow. Our birthtime gives us our Rising sign. Our Rising sign is the image we project out to the world and influences how we perceive the world and others around us. It also represents a key part of our identity and the themes, cycles and patterns that may show up throughout our lives and also how we respond to these challenges.

"How does the Rising sign have so much influence on me?"

Astrology uses a house system of 12 houses where each represent a different area of life. Your Rising sign (Ascendant, shown as Ac on your birth chart) is symbolic of your moment of birth and always starts the houses, falling in the 1st House. The zodiac sign of the 1st House is important as it sets the stage for the following acts (the rest of the Houses). If you were born, in London UK, on December 18th 2024 at 09:30, your Sun sign would be Sagittarius but your Rising sign would be Capricorn and Capricorn would be in your 1st House, Aquarius would be in your 2nd House, Pisces in your 3rd House and so on. However, if you were born at 11:45 (a couple of hours later), your Sun sign would still be Sagittarius but your Rising sign would be Pisces so Pisces would be in your 1st House, Aries would be in your 2nd House, Taurus in your 3rd House and so on. As your 1st House represents your sense of identity, your appearance, your physical body and first impressions and these would be heavily influenced by your Rising sign and any planets that were transiting that zodiac sign at the time of your birth. So, if you was born at 09:30 Capricorn traits would influence your sense of identity and outward impression and you may seem reliable, mature, pragmatic and dependable to others. But, if you was born at 11:45 Pisces traits would influence your sense of identity and outward impression and you may seem imaginative, dreamy and intuitive to others. This analysis is just the beginning.

How astrology works is a vast and intricate subject, encompassing a wealth of information that cannot be condensed in a single blog post. However, to summarise the importance of knowing your birthtime, would be to say that knowing which zodiac sign falls in your 1st House and, therefore, the planets that were transiting that zodiac helps you understand how you present yourself to the world and sets the placements for the remaining 11 Houses, enlightening you in different areas of your life such as education, career, family, finances, health, relationships and personal growth. By examining these placements you gain insights into how the positioning of the planets today may be affecting you. For example, if Mercury was transiting Pisces at 11:45 on the day of your birth, Mercury would also fall in your 1st House. Today, if Mercury is once again transiting Pisces, you may feel particularly attuned to the emotional and intuitive realms of communication. This could manifest as a yearning for some meaningful conversation or connection with others where you feel you are bonding through sharing dreams, visions and aspirations.

In this context, understanding the current transits and how they relate to your natal chart can illuminate the ways in which you are influenced by the cosmos.

In conclusion, while astrology is a complex field that encompasses a myriad of elements, the importance of knowing your birth time cannot be overstated. It serves as the foundation for understanding how the celestial bodies influence your life, shaping your personality, relationships, and experiences. By exploring these astrological dynamics, you can cultivate a deeper connection to yourself and the world around you, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and enriched existence.
